4th Grade Halloween Math Mystery Pictures turns place value and multi-digit computation into a color-by-number challenge. Every set has a problem page and a matching number grid. Students solve each problem, find the answer in the grid and color it, and a Halloween picture appears square by square.
Eight original pictures cover eight core fourth grade skills with numbers up to 1,000,000: expanded form to standard form, word form to standard form, comparing numbers, rounding to the nearest thousand, rounding to the nearest ten thousand, adding with the standard algorithm, subtracting with the standard algorithm, and one-step and two-step addition and subtraction word problems.
What sets this resource apart is how it handles mistakes. Common wrong answers, such as a digit placed one place value off or two digits swapped, are planted in the grid. A student who makes one of those errors colors the wrong square, the picture looks off, and they know exactly which problem to revisit. The activity checks itself without giving away the answers.
A 4-week study plan alternates solving and coloring days and builds in Fix-it Fridays for reviewing errors. A How to Use page, color answer keys for every picture and a Math Mystery Solver certificate are included.
The pages print in black and white, so all students need is a pencil and colored pencils. It works well for October math centers, test review, early finishers and a focused but festive Halloween week.
