Phonics Rescue is a phonics intervention kit for kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade, written for RTI, MTSS, small groups and tutoring in line with the Science of Reading. It follows 67 phonics skills in a set sequence so you always know what to teach next.
The sequence starts with letter sounds and short vowels and builds through the FLOSS rule, CK, digraphs, NG and NK, blends, silent E, soft C and G, TCH and DGE, inflected endings, compound words, Y as a vowel and consonant-LE. Later skills cover R-controlled vowels, vowel teams, advanced vowel patterns, silent letters, prefixes, suffixes and the doubling, drop the E and change Y to I rules.
Every skill uses the same two-day routine. Day 1 is word work: tapping sounds on tiles, blending and writing in sound boxes, building words, reading words at two levels and sorting real from silly words. Day 2 brings a decodable story that uses only patterns already taught, with a heart word strip, three timed readings, comprehension questions, a written response, a pattern word hunt and a drawing extension.
Assessment is built in. A placement screener shows where each student should start, 67 Quick Check cards confirm mastery, and class and student trackers, a fluency graph, a reading log, a small group planner and an intervention notes log keep your data in one place.
