Every complete sentence needs a who and a what-they-do. Friendly bats, ghosts, pumpkins, mummies and monsters help students find both parts, build sentences that make sense and match singular and plural subjects with the right verb.
Halloween Subjects and Predicates is a sentence building grammar resource for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. Students learn to identify the subject and the predicate, put them together to build complete sentences and make the verb agree with a singular or plural subject, all with friendly Halloween characters instead of scary ones.
The heart of the set is 96 picture sentence cards. There are 24 singular subjects, 24 plural subjects, 24 singular predicates and 24 plural predicates, color-coded with matching pairs. Students combine a subject card and a predicate card to build a sentence, then check whether the two parts agree.
Forty task cards add focused practice: 24 ask students to decide whether a part is the subject or the predicate, and 16 target subject-verb agreement. A Scoot recording sheet turns them into a moving whole-class game.
Practice pages give students many ways to show what they know. They build and write sentences, sort subjects by one or more, create silly sentences and draw them, color the two parts, underline and circle, cut and match, and make their own sentence cards. Complete or Fragment? and Fix the Fragment teach students to spot and repair incomplete sentences in their own writing.
Two anchor posters, a 1-week teacher plan with center ideas, four exit tickets, answer keys and a Sentence Superstar Award complete the 38 pages for grammar centers, small groups, morning work, homework and intervention.

Why it works
Physical cards let students hold the two parts of a sentence and snap them together, which makes an abstract idea concrete. Color coding and matching pairs turn subject-verb agreement into a quick self-check, and fragment practice carries the skill straight into student writing.
