Missing Addend Worksheets is a differentiated addition practice set for kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade that focuses on one powerful idea: if you know the whole and one part, you can find the other part. There are 40 worksheets in all, split evenly between sums within 10 and sums within 20.
Each worksheet type appears at both levels. Students find missing parts on dominoes, complete part-part-whole models, build numbers with ten frames, hop on a number line and solve missing number equations written three ways, including with the unknown first and with the equal sign on the left.
A Find the Missing Part anchor chart teaches three strategies students can choose from: counting on from the part they know, thinking of the problem as subtraction, and using a part-part-whole model. These strategies tie missing addends directly to fact families and early subtraction.
Practice goes beyond equations. Each level includes a word problem page, four Secret Word cut and paste pages that reveal a hidden word when solved, and a quick check to see who is ready to move on. Because the formats repeat across both levels, students can move up to bigger numbers without learning new directions.
A two-week teaching plan maps out the lessons, and answer keys are provided for every worksheet. The 49 black and white pages suit math centers, guided math, small groups, homework, intervention, early finishers, homeschool and sub plans.
