Description

CVC Tap, Map & Write is a kindergarten and 1st grade phonics resource built around one predictable routine for blending, segmenting, mapping and spelling consonant-vowel-consonant words. It covers 60 CVC words across all five short vowels and fits classrooms following the Science of Reading.

Each word moves through three steps. Children first tap and blend, pushing a counter into an Elkonin sound box for every sound and then sliding along the arrow to say the whole word. Next they map the sounds to letters, tracing at first and then writing on their own. Finally they write the word from memory and circle the correct spelling to check.

The 40 practice pages are organized into ten word sets, two for each short vowel, with six words and picture support on every page. A reusable sound box mat, a How to Sound It Out poster and five short vowel picture charts give students tools they can reach for during any reading or writing time.

Beyond the worksheets, five Build-It cut-and-glue activities, mixed vowel review pages, 60 picture word cards and five games keep practice active in centers and small groups. Change One Sound and Sound Box Race build the flexible phonemic awareness that strong decoders need.

A teacher plan lays out a 10-minute daily routine with prompts for when a student gets stuck, and a scope and sequence paces the word sets. Progress records, a dictation check with new words and a class tracker make it easy to see who is ready to move on. The black-and-white pages work well laminated or in dry-erase sleeves.
