Description

Decodable Phonics Game Boards is a printable roll-and-read collection for kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade. Students roll, move a turtle game piece and read the decodable word they land on, which turns daily phonics review into a quick, repeatable game.

The 166 boards cover 61 phonics skills organized into 10 units and sequenced in a Science of Reading approach. The path begins with short vowels and the FLOSS rule, moves through digraphs, blends, CVCe, soft C and G, TCH and DGE, and inflectional endings, then continues to vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, diphthongs, silent letter pairs, prefixes and the doubling, drop-E and change Y to I rules.

Every skill has two boards. Level A Core Words lists 20 short, common decodable words with no repeats. Level B Stretch + Silly offers 16 longer words and short phrases plus 4 starred nonsense words that check true decoding. Because the layouts match, readers at different levels can play the same game at one table.

Progress is easy to follow. Ten Decoding Check assessments come with student reading pages and teacher recording sheets, and a Class Decoding Record keeps results in one place. Students log their games on a Roll and Read Log, apply words on a Read, Write, Use sheet and follow their own progress on My Race Tracker.

A skill index, weekly study plan, teacher notes, illustrated directions, a family note, eight Sort It activities, a spinner, foldable turtles, blank board templates and answer keys round out the low-ink set. Print once and laminate for centers, small groups, intervention, tutoring and homeschool.

Why it works

Repeated reading of decodable words is what builds automatic decoding, and a game makes students willing to read many more words than a list would. Two matching levels per skill keep a mixed group playing together, while the Decoding Checks show exactly when a child is ready to move on.
