Read It, Prove It, Think It! is a set of fall reading comprehension passages for 3rd and 4th grade built around close reading, text evidence and inference. It holds 15 original fiction and nonfiction passages spread across October, November and December.
Topics move with the season, from a leaf pile plan and the salmon run to the Mayflower voyage, polar bears waiting for ice, the science of snowflakes, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Mixing stories with informational texts gives students regular practice with both genres.
Every passage follows the same layout: numbered paragraphs, a genre label and word count, three-read check-off boxes, a running word count on each line and a one-minute fluency check. Because the format never changes, students spend their energy on the reading rather than on figuring out the page. Students know exactly where to look for evidence and how to cite a paragraph number.
Two question levels make differentiation simple. Level 1 offers multiple-choice evidence questions, vocabulary in context and an inference question with sentence starters. Level 2 asks for written evidence answers, an It Says / I Say inference activity and a written connection response.
A 3-day close reading plan, fluency benchmarks, a Read Like a Detective anchor chart, an evidence code, an It Says / I Say / And So organizer and answer keys with sample responses round out the 59 pages for guided reading, centers, intervention, homework and test prep.
