Benny Bear and Lulu Bunny walk young children through 80 social skills, from taking turns and calming down to saying sorry and trying new things. Every skill comes with its own illustrated social story, a ready 2-day lesson plan, two activity levels and a note for families.
This Social Skills Curriculum gives PreK, kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms a full year of social emotional learning in one place. It teaches 80 SEL skills through short, original social stories starring two friendly characters, Benny Bear and Lulu Bunny, so young children can see a skill in action before they try it themselves.
The 80 lessons are organized into eight units: School Skills, Friendship, Feelings, Kindness & Empathy, Communication, Self-Control & Problem Solving, Character, and Me & My World. Topics range from waiting in line and using an inside voice to handling disagreements, telling the truth, respecting property and thinking positive.
Each skill follows the same simple pattern. Read the illustrated social story, talk about it with the discussion questions, then practice. A ready-to-use 2-day lesson plan keeps prep light, and every skill ends with a home note so families can use the same language at home.
Two activity levels make the character education lessons work in a mixed group. Level 1 offers a draw-and-trace activity with a traceable "I can" sentence, while Level 2 adds sentence starter writing and a self-reflection checklist for children who are ready to write.
Stick puppets, a feelings chart, a Ways to Calm Down poster, a Kind Hearts journal cover, an 80-skill progress tracker, a scope and sequence and a year-long study plan round out the 383 black and white pages. It suits morning meeting, counseling, special education, speech therapy, behavior support and homeschool.
